With historical heft and a kitsch kudos rating in the high 90s, Nancy Sinatra can collaborate with whom she darn well pleases. Accordingly, songs by Bono and the Edge (Two Shots of Happy, One Shot of Sad), Jarvis Cocker (DonΓÇÖt Let Him Waste Your Time and BabyΓÇÖs CominΓÇÖ Back), Calexico (BurninΓÇÖ Down the Spark), Sonic Youth (MommaΓÇÖs Boy), Steve Van Zandt (Baby Please DonΓÇÖt Go) and Morrissey (Let Me Kiss You) are performed with treacly sass or drawling languor by the veteran chanteuse. It could have been one long camp in-joke, instead it's a revelation. SinatraΓÇÖs singing sounds better than ever, and the project coheres despite its multiple sources. In fact, fashionably retro and achingly now though they are, these 11 tracks add up to a small stunner of an album.
